Sechenov University is the oldest medical university in Russia and one of the most authoritative medical centers in Europe. For more than 260 years, it has developed unique traditions of clinical education and trained generations of physicians who have made significant contributions to global medicine.
Located in Moscow — one of Eastern Europe’s largest medical and scientific hubs — the university provides students with access to leading hospitals, research institutes, and an international academic community.

Today, Sechenov University actively welcomes international applicants, including students from Indonesia, and offers the General Medicine program in Russian or English. This option is especially attractive for Indonesian high school graduates who are considering medical education abroad, with opportunities to pursue an international career or return home with a strong professional background.
The educational process combines classical scientific approaches of Russian medical education with modern clinical technologies.

The General Medicine program is recognized as one of the highest-quality medical programs in Russia. It integrates fundamental theoretical training, extensive clinical practice, and a strong academic culture that is highly valued by students from Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.

About the General Medicine Specialist Degree Program

The program belongs to the field of Clinical Medicine, is delivered in a full-time format, and lasts 6 years. Upon graduation, students receive the qualification of “Medical Doctor (General Medicine),” which allows them to continue their education in residency programs and pursue professional medical practice.

During the first three years, students study humanities, natural sciences, and biomedical disciplines. This stage builds a solid scientific foundation and develops essential competencies such as clinical thinking, intercultural communication, and teamwork — skills that are especially important for international students from Indonesia.

From the fourth year onward, the focus shifts entirely to professional medical disciplines. Students study obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal and infectious diseases, surgery, anesthesiology, emergency and military medicine.
Special attention is given to diseases relevant to different climatic regions, making the training particularly valuable for future work in tropical and subtropical countries, including Indonesia.

Future physicians learn to diagnose diseases, select effective treatment strategies, provide emergency medical care, carry out prevention and rehabilitation measures, and conduct medical examinations, including forensic assessments.

The program is delivered at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Institute of Clinical Medicine — one of the largest medical faculties in Russia, uniting 49 departments. Clinical training takes place at 21 affiliated hospitals and medical centers in Moscow, ensuring constant interaction with real clinical practice.
